Hillary Clinton’s name is expected to come up once the topic about the 2020 Presidential Election is brought. This time, however, reports are saying that Clinton be joining the race but as Michael Bloomberg’s running mate.
The latest rumor seems to have originated by well-known news-aggregator Matt Drudge, according to Politico. The report claimed that Michael Bloomberg is seriously considering Hillary Clinton to be his running mate in this year's presidential race.
“Sources close to Bloomberg campaign tell DRUDGE REPORT that candidate is considering Hillary as running mate after their polling found the Bloomberg-Clinton combination would be a formidable force…,” Drudge tweeted.
Initially, the reaction from Bloomberg’s camp seemed to support the report's claim. While Bloomberg’s campaign downplayed the report, they did not deny it either
“We are focused on the primary and the debate, not VP speculation,” Bloomberg’s campaign communications director Jason Schechter said.
The report said that Bloomberg is mulling on changing his residency from New York, where Clinton also resides, to some of the homes he owned in Florida or Colorado. The Constitution’s 12th Amendment states that candidates for the presidency and vice-presidency should not come from the same state.
Donald Trump’s supports seem to relish the idea of a Bloomberg-Clinton ticket. “I can think of absolutely NOTHING that would make @realDonaldTrump and his supporters happier,” conservative commentator Candace Owens posted on Twitter. “Do it, @HillaryClinton. Make our day.”
However, some believe that the announcement was just a ploy so that other Democratic candidates won’t get as much attention. “Crooked would add partisan lightning rod dynamic Bloomberg *currently* avoids in the general,” former Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller said.
Others believe that it could be Drudge’s way of getting back at the president. It was noted that Drudge “recently lost some legitimacy in Trumpworld after running a series of stories criticizing the president.”
However, Hillary Clinton denied rumors that she would be Bloomberg’s running mate. “Oh no,” the former First Lady said in an interview with El Vocero de Puerto Rico, according to the New York Post. “I’m just waiting and watching as this plays out. I will support whoever the nominee is.”
