Despite the Mexico-Canada deal, U.S. tariffs on China remain set to take effect at 12:01 a.m. ET Tuesday. Trump warned of potential increases if China fails to curb fentanyl exports. Beijing criticized the tariffs, vowing to challenge them at the WTO while leaving room for talks.
The developments sent the Canadian dollar surging, lifted U.S. stock index futures, and eased industry concerns over supply chain disruptions. Trump hinted at future tariffs on the European Union, though Britain might be spared.
